Walking Shadow Co-Artistic Director John Heimbuch performed Charlie Bethel’s fierce hourlong retelling of Beowulf. A faithful and accessible adaptation of the classic Old English poem about a warrior king and some famous monsters, modernizing the wit, vigor, and meaty language of the original Anglo-Saxon epic.
This performance was streamed on Facebook Live from March 26 – April 5, 2020.

Carry Nation splinters unsuspecting saloons with her mighty hatchet! She targets nothing less than the limits of society. The men would shut her down, but God calls her on, and her awesome legacy is one of inspiration, passion and determination. An unabashedly feminist rock musical!

The Odyssey

Shipwrecks, sirens, and mythical goddesses meet magic, death, and revenge. Acclaimed solo artist Charlie Bethel re-imagines Homer’s famous tale in a faithful yet accessible performance. Voyage across land and sea, through the underworld, and to the top of Mt. Olympus as Odysseus seeks his homeland and the arms of his loving wife.
Walking Shadow produced The Odyssey in 2014. This was a previously-unseen video created by Charlie, presented in partnership with the Charlie Bethel Legacy Project.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

In the quaint village of Sleepy Hollow, stories of wonder and strangeness surround the legend of a mighty headless Hessian. When the humble schoolteacher Ichabod Crane vies for the hand of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, the townsfolk might protest but it is ultimately the Horseman who will decide his fate.

The ancient Sumerian epic about the adventures of King Gilgamesh. Including his friendship with a hairy wildman, the battle with the Bull of Heaven, the Tale of the Great Flood, and a quest for immortality!
